glammed up

i'm tired of beauty being related to that of a movie star or model.

over the past week i've caught the end of a show on tlc called "a makeover story". (it's right before mister roger's neighborhood, be quiet.)

at the end of the show, the two best friends see each other all glammed up - new makeup, hair, clothes - the whole bit.

their remarks to the newness are usually structured kind of like this:

"look how beautiful you are! you look like a movie star!"

what the heck?

since when are the movie stars the only pretty ones?

since when is beauty how much botox has been injected into your forehead, how many times you've dyed your hair, how tan you are, or how small your waist is?

i'm sad that beauty has changed into something superficial.

recently i've discovered (not for the first time mind you), that i have ridiculously pretty friends. they are all quite the lookers. and even though i feel left out a lot of the time - i'm so glad it's that way.

and although their physical appearance is beautiful in all ways, they all have such wonderful interiors.

i would rather not compare them to a movie star, or anyone.

for i think perhaps true beauty doesn't have to be compared.
