so what if i am one of those ridiculous girls who reads a magazine while at the Y? it's only 'cause i was so excited to listen to my new 'workout' playlist (complete with justin AND kanye), but forgot to actually drag it onto my ipod. annoying.
anyways... i picked up marie claire, and there was an interview with mark ruffalo inside. i like him in the movies i've seen him in, and he seemed like an interesting enough person (plus, i didn't need extensive research on which lip glosses would get me into a club any better than my tube of blistex) to read about.
blah blah blah - long story short - at the end he said this: "the best advice i ever read was to try to grasp the unattainable, redefine everything that has been taught to you, and understand the power of a single action."
now back to this book that i read a couple weeks ago... 'the furious longing of God'. i'm totally pushing for you to read it if you can't tell...
alright ... so if there were only a few things that i got from this book (which isn't true, i got many things, it just stresses the importance of what i'm about to say) - one of them would be power of a single action.
i felt like manning would tell these stories that would urge you to go and drastically change someone's future by giving them an apple or something...
i don't think the power of a single action will ever be fully understood. even if we feel like we have contributed to society in some great way by giving our clothes to a needy family - i still don't think that that feeling will ever last long enough to make us want to change lives every day.
when i was in haiti, it was fun to be able to just smile at a kid and for them to come running to you. as if by smiling i said to them, "i love you and you are valued."
but you know what? if a smile is enough to convey a message of love or hope or value to a hurting heart ... i will smile on.
