enjoying a cloudy morning snuggled in my apartment after sending the best friend and family back home to the south and reflecting on the weekend i just had while listening to planetshakers "how i love you" - which is essentially pretty music with the words: "Jesus, i'm in love with you".
fitting.
a few days ago i jotted down a note on my phone that said, "cool thing about God is he specifically chooses the broken [noun], while i intentionally skip it."
standing in a packed chapel at the newest trinity grace church parish launch for WASHINGTON HEIGHTS (my hood, people), i was reminded of just how crazy God is about broken, messy, sloppy bunches of people who all love each other but maybe don't like each other that much (or do, either way - you know). it's fun to watch His perspective slowly creep into my heart, working furiously to get me to see things from His point of view. it's woooorking.
when i wrote that on my phone, i was mainly thinking of anytime i've bought something - looking for the best version of the product i'm buying. i think we all do that, right? if we grab a thing of cheerios off the shelf and see that the box is dented or tarnished, it's our natural reaction to just quickly switch it out for the one that looks the newest or least damaged. yet another time when i'm reminded that it is so relieving that God is the opposite of us in our weaknesses.
while i'm looking for the spiffiest version of whatever i'm acquiring, God's going - "i'll take you, you, you, you, you ... [X infinity]" God's like the danielle steele of rags to riches stories. scooping up yucky excuses for human beings and launching them into the throws of relational success & purpose.
anytime you're feeling down - move away (that part seems a bit optional, but it's fun to move away) and find a purposeful group of people who care passionately about others. it's a sure fire remedy for the purposeless blues. for your health.
